Qui-Gon Jinn is a Jedi Master. He is Obi-Wan Kenobi's mentor, and is a man of
60 years, with a long gray pony tail. Along with Kenobi, Qui-Gon is one of the Supreme
Chancellor's Ambassadors. When Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and the Queen arrive at Tatooine and meet Anakin, Qui-Gon is the only
one who believes in Anakin. He believes Anakin is the chosen one. He is the one responsible for taking Anakin to Coruscant.
This paves the road for the rest of the saga. When returning to Naboo with the
Queen, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are met by Darth Maul. Qui-Gon's life ends with Maul stabbing him.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is in his twenties in "The Phantom Menace." He appeared in Episodes IV, V, and VI. Trained by Yoda, and later Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan is a jedi apprentice. He and Qui-Gon are the two Chancellor's ambassadors. When they return to Naboo, Obi-Wan along with Qui-Gon are confronted by Darth Maul. After killing Qui-Gon, Darth Maul and Obi-Wan get into an intense fight. Out of rage for the death of Qui-Gon(which is a trait of the dark side) Obi-Wan kills Darth Maul. He is later acknowledged as a Jedi Knight and takes Anakin as his apprentice.
Queen Amidala is ruler of the Naboo, at age fourteen.(Amidala, funny enough, is not the youngest ruler Naboo has had.) The Trade Federation invades her planet,
and she begs the senate for help with the aid of the two Jedi and Palpatine. When the Senate chooses not to help her, she and the Naboo fight a war with the Federation,
and come out victorious. When she is not the queen, she is known as Padme Naberrie, and dresses as a handmaiden. Her decoy is Sabe.
Anakin Skywalker, as we all know, will become Darth Vader. Anakin is a slave boy living with his mother on Tatooine. When Qui-Gon Jinn needs repairs to his ship, Anakin helps him by winning a podrace. His reward is freedom. The Jedi Counsel see him as a possible Jedi. After discussion, they choose not to train Anakin. Later, Anakin and the group return to Naboo, and he sneaks into a Naboo fighter. He destroys the Federation control ship singlehandedly, and is later named Obi-Wan's apprentice after Yoda changes his mind. We will see how he becomes Vader, and I have a feeling it will be partly because of his mother.
Darth Maul is Darth Sidious's apprentice. More than able with a lightsaber, this extremely well trained Sith Lord
can take on two Jedi at once. Maul chases the Queen at Tatooine. When the Queen escapes, he follows them to
Naboo. He is met by Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. After killing Qui-Gon, Maul is
killed by Obi-Wan.
Darth Sidious is the man behind the Federation's invasion. He controls the Neimoidians. Many believe he is also Senator Palpatine. Sidious dispatches his apprentice, Lord Maul to capture the Queen after she escapes. When they go back to Naboo, Sidious sends the Neimoidians, the droid army, and Darth Maul to conquer Naboo. When they are unsuccessful, Sidious is angry, and takes on a new apprentice.(A rumor says we will see a new sith in Episode II)
Jar Jar Binks is a Gungan. The banished Gungan encounters
Qui-Gon Jinn during the Federation invasion. He follows Qui-Gon, from Naboo to Tatooine to Coruscant and back to Naboo. This frog like animal is very clumsy, which is why he was banished from Otoh Gunga at first. Because of this, he slows the group down on their journey. After returning to Naboo, Jar Jar helps the
Naboo and Gungans form an alliance. Jar Jar will have a role in Episode II.
Watto is a Toydorian living on Tatooine. He owner of slave boy Anakin Skywalker and Shmi Skywalker. When Qui-Gon Jinn needs parts to his ship, but is short on money, Watto makes a bet with Qui-Gon over the Boonta Eve podrace,
and loses. As a result, Anakin is freed, and goes to Coruscant with Qui-Gon.
